The paperweight “A bear sow” (left) is part of the widely known ink set “A bear sow with cubs” which consisted of 11 items and was cast in bronze at the factories of A. N. Sokolov, K. F. Werfel and other Saint Petersburg enterprises in the second half of the 19th - early 20th century. In 1867 and 1872, a Saint Petersburg bronze master A. N. Sokolov exhibited that writing set at world fairs in Paris and London. The ink set in the Russian style achieved broad appeal, its paperweight with an image of a lying bear sow (left and right) were replicated in cast iron in several sizes (with stands and without them) at the Kasli Foundry and Kusinsky Plant.
